The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training ships ‘KASHIMA’ and ‘SETOYUKI’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit on 18th June 2021, conducted a passage exercise (PASSEX) with Sri Lanka Navy, as they departed from the port of Colombo today (20th June).

The exercise which comprised formations and ship manoeuvres, communication exercises and other naval exercises was joined by Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Sagara off the Colombo harbour. In addition the departing JMSDF ships were bade farewell in compliance with naval traditions as well.

Conducted in accordance with the COVID-19 protocols in force, exercises of this nature will enhance mutual cooperation between the two navies as well as pave the way to gain new knowledge on maritime operations, exchange strategies and experience, identify new challenges and find collective solutions for them.
