Sepala Amarasinghe has been arrested by the Police CID from the area of Boralesgamuwa, over complaints of making statement defaming the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

he Chief Prelates of Malwatu and Asgiri Chapters and the Diyawadana Nilame (Custodian) of the Temple of Tooth in a joint letter had requested President Ranil Wickramasinghe to take immediate action against the activist regarding the statement he allegedly made on social media to insult Buddhism and the sacred temple.

The letter has pointed out that the concerned person has posted insulting statements on the Buddhist religion and Sri Dalada Maligawa on social media in a way that hurts Buddhists.

Chairman of the Sinhala Ravaya National Organization Ven. Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero has filed a complaint to the police headquarters saying that the suspect has made these statements deliberately to disrupt the harmony in the country.

Ven. Kotahene Narada Thero, an incumbent of Kotte Sri Naga Vihara, and several civil organizations have also complained to the Inspector General of Police yesterday, demanding the immediate arrest of the concerned person for insulting Buddhism and Sri Dalada Maligawa.
