In a distressing incident that unfolded at Sabaragamuwa University, six students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages (FSSL) have been arrested by Samanalawewa police on January 28th for their alleged involvement in the ragging of a female student. The arrests were made following a swift response to a complaint received via the 1997 hotline.

Ragging, a controversial initiation practice prevalent in some educational institutions, is strictly prohibited by law in Sri Lanka, and the authorities have been taking measures to eradicate this harmful tradition.

The arrested individuals will appear before court today. Samanalawewa police are continuing further investigations. (LankaXpress.com )
