Russian Health Minister to Visit Sri Lanka in 2025 to Deepen Health Sector Cooperation

LankaXpress.com Colombo, May 31 : In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral ties, the Russian Minister of Health is expected to visit Sri Lanka later this year, following discussions held between Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Levan S. Dzhagaryan, and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

During the meeting held at the Ministry on May 30, Ambassador Dzhagaryan conveyed Russia’s keen interest in expanding collaboration with Sri Lanka in the fields of health, Ayurveda, and media. The proposed visit by the Murashko Mikhail Minister of Healthcare of the Russian Federation is aimed at initiating further dialogue and cooperation in these sectors.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the Sri Lankan government’s initiatives to strengthen the health sector and commended the administration’s pro-people approach to delivering quality health services, free from waste, fraud, and corruption. He also reiterated Russia’s continued support for the country’s efforts to build a sustainable and efficient health system.

Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa warmly welcomed the prospect of the Russian Health Minister Murashko Mikhail ’s visit, assuring a cordial reception by the Sri Lankan government. He emphasized the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Russia and the consistent support extended by Russia in various sectors, especially healthcare.

The meeting also included discussions on advancing cooperation in Ayurveda and media, further reinforcing the multifaceted partnership between the two nations. Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Media, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, and a delegation from the Russian Embassy also attended the discussion.

The upcoming visit marks a new chapter in Sri Lanka–Russia relations, as both nations look to strengthen cooperation and share expertise for mutual progress.
