Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday claimed that there is no move to resume the national fuel pass QR system or any quota system for fuel.

“The Govt, Ministry of Power and Energy or CPC have not engaged in any discussions to re-introduce the National Fuel Pass QR system or any quota system for fuel…” the minister tweeted.

He said the Ministry, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) held discussions to plan for cargo requirements for the next 12 months and to increase the existing storage capacities at the CPSTL Kollonnawa and Mutthurajawela terminals and regional depots to maintain a larger buffer stock.

On September 1, Sri Lanka scrapped the fuel quota QR system after normalizing the fuel distribution system in the country.
