The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) admitted a total of 1,030 students on January 16, 2023 who took G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination in 2021, making it the first faculty intake in the country among all other university faculties.

The university admitted 1030 students who took G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination in 2021, out of which 828 students were under the normal intake and 165 students were under the direct intake. Moreover, 45 students who missed the batch during the past year were also admitted. The official reception ceremony of the new students, organized by the faculty held on yesterday followed by the selection tests for general courses and other programs.

The Dean of Faculty, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda stated the faculty is hoping to finish the first semester before the New Year in April. The students will come to the university after two weeks to face the first semester examinations. While addressing the event, Prof. Heenkenda said this is the first faculty among the state universities in Sri Lanka to commence the academic year for 2023. He added that nearly 4,000 students are currently studying at the university and the total number of courses offered by the FHSS for 2023 has been increased to 35. He also said additional information has been conveyed to students via the official website and email.

The orientation program was well attended by faculty members and student representatives. The faculty members briefed the students about the programs and courses offered by the faculty. 

Orientation program is planned to be held in 3 phases as 10 groups and program scheduled to continue thru 27th of January 2023 Friday. Acedemic studies for the first-year students scheduled to start on 23rd of January 2023.
