Japanese Ambassador in Colombo, Akira Sugiyama paid a farewell call on the Minister of Mass Media, Dullas Alahapperuma November 1 at the Ministry of Mass Media.


Minister warmly welcomed the Ambassador and thanked the Envoy for services rendered during his tenure in Colombo to strengthen the historical relationship the two countries maintained for decades.
Ambassador recalled the cooperation he has built up with Minister Alahapperuma when he was at the Ministry of Power. Minister told the Ambassador about the initiatives he has taken to get, much delayed Digitalization of Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Project (DTTB), expedited.


Ambassador was also briefed about the status of that Project by the Project Director, Eng. Prasanga Rajapakshe. Ambassador was informed that his request on issuing of a Commemorative Stamp in celebrating 70th year of Diplomatic relations between the two countries had warmly been welcomed by the Ministry of Mass Media, and about Minister’s instructions given to the Postal Department of SL to take necessary steps in this regard.


Minister Alahapperuma who congratulated the outgoing Ambassador for his successful tenure in Colombo wished him all the success in his future endeavors.
Japanese Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Chiharu HOSHIAI, First Secretary/Head of Development Cooperation Section, Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media, Jagath Wijeweera and Private Secretary to the Minister, Oshadhi Alahapperuma were also present at the event.
