The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Bagley, paid a courtesy call on the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to extend his warm wishes for the new year. During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest, including India’s support towards rescheduling debt with Sri Lanka.

The High Commissioner reiterated India’s assurance to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support Sri Lanka. He also briefed about Indian investments in Sri Lanka, many of which started during the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also inquired from the High Commissioner about the Ruhuna University auditorium and Jaffna Cultural Center, which were started and completed during his tenures as President and Prime Minister respectively.

The meeting was held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, and both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka.
