Heavy showers above 75 mm will occur at several places in most provinces of the island after 2 p.m., the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

They said heavy showers are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and Uva Provinces.

Moreover, showers will occur in the Eastern Province and in the Hambantota district during the morning.

Misty conditions expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast, extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambantota, particularly during the afternoon or night.

The winds will be north-easterly or variable in direction, and the wind speed will be up to 25 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slightly rough.

The Department notes that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
