Nov 20, Colombo: The government has decided to introduce a new permanent operational system to the security forces to make decisions about aircraft and ships of foreign security agencies coming to Sri Lanka.

The new operating system, which has been prepared by the security chiefs as well as the officers of the Attorney General’s Department under the leadership of the President’s Senior Adviser and the Chief of the Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake, is proposed to be implemented in the future.

The arrival of the controversial Chinese ship ‘Yuan Wang 5’ in Sri Lanka in August created a diplomatic crisis as it was declared a spy ship by India. The Sri Lankan government requested the Chinese government to delay its arrival due to security concerns raised by India.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe then instructed Security Adviser Sagala Ratnayake to prepare a permanent program regarding this immediately.

Accordingly, necessary decisions will be taken under the new program regarding the permission for defense ships and aircraft to enter the country so that diplomatic problems do not arise in the future.
