The landfall process of Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm “Mocha” has commenced over north-west Myanmar coast. ESCS MOKHA is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross SE Bangladesh and N Myanmar coasts close to Sittwe (Myanmar) within a few hours as an ESCS with maximum sustained wind speed of 180-190kmph gusting to 210 kmph. Thelandfall process has commenced.

ESCS “Mocha” lay centered at 1130 hours IST of today, the 14th May 2023 over Northeast Bay of Bengal near latitude 19.9°N and longitude 92.5°E, about 40 km southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar) and 170 km south-southeastof Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh).

The ESCS Cyclone “Mocha” lay centered at 0530hrs IST of 14th May 2023 over Northeast & adjoining East central Bay of Bengal near lat 18.7N & long 91.5E. Its likely to cross between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) & Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon of today.

No direct impact to Sri Lanka.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers may occur elsewhere over the country.

Strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times over the Island.
