In a recent announcement, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has declared that water tariffs will be revised starting from August 3, 2023. The NWSDB confirmed that a relevant gazette notification will be issued tonight, formalizing the tariff adjustment.

According to the General Manager of the NWSDB, the revised water tariffs will see an increase of approximately 30% to 50%. The Water Tariffs will be increased depending on the monthly usage.

Samurdhi and Aswesuma beneficiaries, religious establishments, hospitals, schools and SMEs will not be affected by the tariff hike says Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, Jeevan Thondaman.

Despite the tariff hike, the NWSDB has assured the public that low-income families will not be impacted by the tariff revision.
