TRCSL says there is NO truth to the statement being circulated claiming that it had directed to restrict telecommunication services in Colombo to voice calls only reports newsfirst.lk.
A letter is circulating on social media claim TRC reportedly requests telecommunication companies only allow Voice Calls during a violent situation on July 9th. It further says that President reportedly has instructed to ensure that only voice communication is allowed in the city of Colombo in mobile networks from 6.00 am July 09″ Saturday, July 2022 until further notice.

On the information received from the State intelligent Services (SIS) and the Secretary of Defense, President been the defense minister and Minister of Technology has informed the Secretary, Ministry of Technology July 09th Saturday, July 2022 that several protests have been planned around the city of Colombo particularly near Galle Face Green.
In this letter it is also mentioned that unruly mobs are planning to cause severe damages to the lives and properties. In the recent past social media and Telecommunication Networks have been used by the demonstrators to aggravate and communicate misinformation.
Therefore, His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka been the Defense Minister and Minister of Technology has instructed to ensure that only voice communication is allowed in the city of Colombo in your networks from 6.00 am tomorrow 09″ Saturday, July 2022 until further notice. Therefore, you are instructed to adhere to the above request.
