In a commendable feat of journalistic excellence, Robert Antony, News Editor of Virakesari Tamil newspaper, was honored with the prestigious “Business and Finance Journalist of the Year” award at the 24th Edition of the Journalism Awards for Excellence held today in Colombo.

Antony’s insightful coverage and in-depth analysis of business and finance matters have once again secured him a top spot in the realm of journalism. This year’s recognition adds to his already impressive list of accolades, as he clinched the “Best Business and Economic Journalist” and “Best Journalist (Merit)” titles at the same awards ceremony last year.

A distinguished alumnus of the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) and a Meridian Media Fellow, Antony’s consistent dedication to delivering high-quality journalism has made him a standout figure in the field.

The Sri Lanka Journalism Awards for Excellence, an annual ceremony, aims to celebrate the accomplishments of print media journalists across the nation, encompassing the three main languages of Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

The Journalism Awards Programme, initiated in 1999 by The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka (TEGOSL), was established in response to the “Colombo Declaration on Media Freedom and Social Responsibility.” In 2004, the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) joined hands with TEGOSL to jointly organize the Awards Night, amplifying its significance.

Anthony’s recent accolade not only highlights his individual prowess but also underscores Virakesari’s commitment to providing comprehensive and insightful coverage in the domain of business and finance. The recognition further solidifies the newspaper’s position as a leading source of news and analysis in the region.
