Reopening of universities will postpone again by 1 month due to the prevailing COVID19 3rd wave health condition in the country says Health Officials. Earlier it was scheduled to re-open universities from April 27.

Earlier Education Minister said that universities will reopen Sri Lanka from April 27. Sri Lanka currently experiencing a spike in COVID 19 cases that forced the health authorities to postpone opening of universities until 31 May.

All universities will re-open for academic activities from June, under strict health safety precautions.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will be meeting with health officials to discuss the matter further. It has been a year now since State universities in the island were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The matter of reopening universities in the current environment presents many practical challenges, UGC chairman Prof. Amaratunge says.
