The Unit 2 generator of Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai will remain inoperative from November 17, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says.

According to the state-owned utility, the high-pressure heater system of the generating unit has suffered an emergency breakdown.

The CEB said the power plant’s employees have already initiated the preliminary measures to restore the out-of-order generating unit.

Meanwhile, Unit 3 of the Norochcholai power plant, which remained deactivated since June 2023, has completed the scheduled major overhaul maintenance work and is now undergoing a test run.

On that account, this generating unit is expected to be connected to the national grid as soon as possible, the CEB said further, assuring that the generation of electricity would not be hampered by the prevailing situation.

Meanwhile, the Kelanitissa Combined Cycle Power Station, which generates 165MW of electricity and operates on naphtha fuel, has been shut down from today for scheduled maintenance of both its Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine, the CEB added.
