A training aircraft, which had taken off from the China Bay air-strip reportedly crashed, claiming the lives of both the trainer and the aspiring trainee on board reports Adaderana.

The training aircraft belongs to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has crashed inside the SLAF Academy in China Bay Trincomalle a few minutes after the take-off this morning.

The aircraft that crashed at the SLAF Academy at 11.27 am after taking off at 11.25 am was a PT-6 training craft. Both trainer & trainee killed & SLAF Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksha has appointed a committee to probe the incident.

The exact reasons behind the crash remain unknown, and Sri Lanka Air Force are investigating to determine the factors that contributed to this tragic incident.

Three years ago, similar training craft PT-6 which took off from China Bay in Trincomalee has crash landed on a road near Janaranjana Wewa, Kantale.
