The police traffic officer who was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo (NHC) after an SUV vehicle ran over him while on duty yesterday at the Independence Avenue roundabout died this morning, hospital sources said.
The 25-year-old police officer reportedly died at around 1.30 a.m. following a brain injury due to the accident.
The high-speeding vehicle had veered off and crashed on the pond at the roundabout after running over the policeman last evening.
He was admitted to the ICU for further treatment yesterday.
The driver of the vehicle is still under police custody.
