Sri Lankan Rupee Continues Strong Against US Dollar

The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) has shown resilience, strengthening against the US Dollar, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Today’s exchange rates released by the central bank indicate a notable shift in favor of the LKR.

Current Exchange Rates:

  • Selling Rate: 316.99 LKR per US DollarBuying Rate: 307.17 LKR per US Dollar
  • The external sector has demonstrated its resilience with stability having been largely restored in 2023 supported by improved foreign exchange inflows. This reinforced the Balance of Payments (BOP) position and facilitated the organic buildup of international reserves, thereby strengthening the Sri Lanka rupee. Gross official reserves (GOR), which declined to a meagre level in April 2022, improved to US dollars 4.4 billion by the end of 2023.
