The tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka for the first 20 days of September crossed the 75,000 mark, fulfilling 62 percent of the target set for the month. 

The provisional data issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority showed that from September 01 to 20, tourist arrivals to the country totalled 75,222. 

Sri Lanka hopes to welcome at least 120,201 tourists for the month of September.   

The daily arrival average for September hovers at approximately 3,761, with the year-to-date cumulative tourist arrivals reaching 979,540. 

India and the United Kingdom retained their positions as the first and second largest tourist traffic generators for Sri Lanka, accounting for 26 percent (19,767) and 7 percent (5,336) of the total arrivals for the month. 

Germany ranked in the third position, bringing in 7 percent (5,119) visitors and the Russian Federation moved up to the fourth position, accounting for 7 percent of the total arrivals (4,835). 

China remains in the fifth position, same as last week, contributing to 6 percent of the total arrivals for the month of September so far, bringing in 4,338 tourists. 

The other key markets include Australia, Israel, the Netherlands, France and Spain.
