Public Utilities Commission has granted permission for scheduled power cuts (1 or 2 hours) from Monday January 10. PUCSL Chairman says Ceylon Electricity Board has requested the approval for 1 to 2 hours power cuts, reports NewsFirst.

Recently, Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that due to the decrease in the revenue received by the Ceylon Electricity Board, a situation has arisen that it cannot make payments to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation for oil. Therefore, it is no longer possible to provide fuel on loan.

Meanwhile, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says that the operation of coal power plants has also become problematic due to the current dollar shortage.

CEB unions say possible power outages coming days due to the CEB’s inability to purchase furnace fuel.
