An official of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) was arrested for reportedly defrauding a woman of Rs. 500,000 by promising foreign employment opportunities.

Accordingly, the suspect was arrested by the Special Investigations Unit of the SLBFE after a resident of the Middeniya area had filed a complaint, claiming that the official in question had swindled money from her under the false pretense of providing her with employment in Romania. 

The suspect, identified as a resident of Moratuwa, had reportedly been arrested after being summoned to appear before the SLBFE’s SIU during investigations into the relevant complain. 

He was arrested on charges of fraudulently obtaining money by promising employment overseas without a valid license to do so.

After the suspect was produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (14 Dec.), the court ordered the release on bail of the suspect on two personal bond of Rs. 500,000 each and a cash bail of Rs. 10,000.
