The Collective of Relatives of the Disappeared During Military Conflicts in the North and East has launched a hartal demanding an international investigation into the skeletal remains recovered from Kokkuthuduvai in Mullaitivu.
All shops in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Mannar and Vavuniya districts had put up shutters in support of the hartal while public transport had been crippled as the transport services including buses and tree-wheelers stayed away from services.
A representative of the organisation Mariyasuresh Eshvari said the relatives of the disappeared will compel the government to hold an international investigation or to obtain the services of foreign experts to hold formal investigations.
