Sri Lanka Police arrested 12 individuals, suspected to be on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country via sea, during a search operation carried out in house at Point Pedro area on July 30. According to the police, the suspects were planning to migrate to Australia.
The suspects were produced in court where the eight men were remanded and the three women and a child were released on bail.
Officials urge the public to refrain from risking their lives by engaging in perilous sea voyages and be victims before the law.
