Social Activist Piyath Nikeshala arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department. He was summoned to the Police CID today to record a statement.
His arrest was pertaining to the investigations into the torching or President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence.
The Police Criminal Investigation Department CID has started investigations regarding the rioters who broke into President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence at 5th Lane Colombo during the protests on July 9 , 2022 and set fire to the official residence and damaged other properties.
On May 10, 2023, Piyath Nikeshala has been hospitalized following an assault incident. He played a key role during the GotaGoGama ‘Aragalaya / Struggle’. The assault was done by the former deputy mayor of Kaduwela Chandika Abeyrathne. Later both Piyath and Chandika arrested.
