More Covid Delta variant cases detected in Sri Lanka, So far 61 cases

So far 61 persons infected with Delta COVID Variant identified in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Medical Association SLMA warns Sri Lanka will experience the fourth COVID wave as more Delta variant cases are detecting. Total Covid “Delta” variant cases increased to 61 after individuals were identified in Colombo Kotte, Kolonnawa, Angoda, Nawagamuwa, Mahabage, Katunayaka, Negombo, Ratmalana, Beruwala, Galle, Matara, Dambulla, Vavuniya and Mullaithivu areas reports Hirunews.

Earlier cases were detected from Piliyandala, Jaffna & Kilinochchi areas. In June 17, Delta variant of Covid-19 virus (B.1.617.2) detected for the 1st time from a community sample in Dematagoda area. Dr Chandima Jeewandara says Covid Delta variant is the most transmissible variant and a major threat to unvaccinated or partially vaccinated persons.

Coronavirus cases in Wester Province is increasing rapidly. Wester province reported 774 new coronavirus cases on July 22 as 347 from Colombo, 218 from Gampaha and 209 from Kalutara identified.
