Peradeniya police arrested two monks while they were digging for treasure at Gannoruwa hill area. Police raided the site based on a tip off. Monks were arrested with the equipment used for the excavation.
The arrested suspects are 30 and 58-year-old monks who live in Gannoruwa Gallen Viharaya Temple.
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court today and the Peradeniya Police are conducting further investigations.
