The Cyclonic Storm “Mandous” over Southwest Bay of Bengal (360km east of Trincomalee) is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross North Tamil-Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coast over Southwest Bay of Bengal around night hours of 09th December.

Hence, Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, Central & North-Western provinces. Heavy rainfall above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the aforementioned areas.

Strong winds about (60-70) kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva & Central provinces.

Actions Required:
• Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanturai, Trincomalee & Batticaloa and Southwest Bay of Bengal (05N – 15N, 80E – 88E) until further notice.
• Those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas immediately.
• Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
