Election Commission Chairman says that he will notify the Supreme Court through a motion that due to lack of funds, it is impossible to hold the local government polls as promised.

“The Election Commission is contemplating filing a special motion before the Supreme Court, stating its difficulties in conducting the LG Polls on the scheduled date, due to the non-availability of adequate funds to conduct polls: Chairman, National Election Commission- Hirunews.lk”

Earlier, Election Commission has informed the Supreme Court that all necessary steps have been taken to hold the Local Government Elections.

On February 17, Election Commission said that the casting of Postal Votes postponed indefinitely due to Postal Ballot Papers not being received from the Government Printer on time.

Earlier, Postal voting for the 2023 Local Government election planned to be held on 22, 23 and 24 February.
