Temperature records of several districts projected to exceed 33°C. Ratnapura, A’pura, Kandy, Jaffna, Mannar may soar to a scorching over 34°C, while Colombo and Trinco are set to reach 33°C.
Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Western, North-western, North-Central, Northern and Southern provinces and in Ratnapura and Monaragala districts. Maximum temperature of 37.4°C reported in Kurunegala area during last 24-hour period.

Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places inWestern, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces after 2.00 p.m. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in North-central,Uva and North-western provinces after 2.00 p.m.

According to the Meteorological Department, the prevailing hot weather will continue till mid-April. According to the Department of Meteorology, the reason for the current hot weather is the decrease in wind speed and cloudiness in the sky.
