Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara requested Japan International Resource Office (IRO) Director Suga Katsukai to explore the possibilities of recruiting more Sri Lankan youth as technical trainees in Japan.

The request was made when the Minister met the IRO director with officials from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) recently.

The delegation gave a favorable response to the request and said that the Japanese greatly appreciate Sri Lankans’ technical ability and elderly care services.

In December 2021, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Japan’s IRO and (SLBFE) to direct Sri Lankan youth to work in Japan as technical trainees.
