The Excise Department has given a period of two weeks to liquor companies which have not paid their excise taxes to settle such tax payments, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

Addressing the media after an event held yesterday, he said nearly Rs. 600 million will be received as tax by the government from liquor companies.

However, the Excise Department has called all the companies and given them two weeks to pay their taxes.

There are about ten companies on the list with due taxes.

The department warned the companies that they would have to take further steps if the taxes were not paid within the next two weeks.

The Excise Department will take legal action against the companies that evade paying the taxes.
