Update – A 5.9 magnitude earthquake occured at off the west coast of northern Sumatra.
There is NO tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at present with the effect of above Earthquake. Therefore, the coastal areas of Sri Lanka are declared safe. Public is further informed that this message is announced in consultation with relevant national and international agencies.
The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka issued a notice saying “Those living near and along the coast around the island are advised to be attentive regarding future announcements in this regard. Latest information in this regard will be publicized through media to the public as and when it becomes available”.
