Update – There is NO tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at present with the effect of Earthquake in Andaman Isaland (6.5 Magnitude ). Therefore, the coastal areas of Sri Lanka are declared safe. Public is further informed that this message is announced in consultation with relevant national and international agencies.
Magnitude 6.5 earthquake strikes near Andaman Islands according to MET. Sri Lankans living along the coastal areas around the island have been advised to be remain vigilant. Those living near and along the coast around the island are advised to be attentive regarding future announcements regarding this. Latest information in this regard will be publicized through media to the public as and when it becomes available.
