Crucial discussion between teachers – principals union and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will be held at the Temple Trees today.

The trade union action which was launched by several teachers – principals union continued for the 93rd consecutive day. Unions say they will continue the trade union action until their demands are met. Due to the strike, online teaching and academic activities in most of schools were badly hampered.

Earlier government had several discussions with unions but failed to solve the issue. Later special Ministerial Sub Committee appointed. Ministerial Sub Committee proposal to increase salaries of teacher-principal approved by the Cabinet. This will come into effect in several stages from the next Budget. Unions didnt agree with the solution.

Government requests to all the teachers and principal trade unions to give up their ongoing trade union action and continue with the online teaching activities.

Meanwhile a meeting between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and several representatives of teachers’ unions accompanied by Chief Incumbent of the Abhayarama temple Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero was held at the Temple Trees on October 11.
