Total COVID Death count in Sri Lanka is reaching 5000 mark. 98 deaths reported due to COVID-19 within 24-hours, stated the Department of Government Information. The Director General of Health Services confirmed that 98 deaths occurred on August 5 due to the COVID. This is the highest single-day confirmed deaths in Sri Lanka after June 11.

Among the dead are 5 males and 44 females. The majority of the deaths numbering 70 is of the people in the 60 years and above age group. One male below 30 years age was among deaths.

According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began last March has now risen to 4919.

Among the dead majority were males. Out of the 4919 deaths, 2853 are male while 2066 are females.  Among the 4919 deaths, the majority of the deaths are of the people in the over 60 years of age group.

About 724 coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka last 10 days. Sri Lanka reported 94 covid deaths for August 4, the second highest single day.
