In a significant development, Power & Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara revealed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is set to submit proposals for a reduction in electricity tariffs to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) within the next two days.

The announcement follows the PUCSL’s commitment to revising electricity tariffs after thorough public consultations and analysis of proposals presented by the CEB. The employees of the PUCSL have actively advocated for a substantial reduction of approximately 25% in electricity tariffs.

This move is anticipated to bring relief to consumers and address concerns regarding the cost of electricity. The forthcoming submission to the PUCSL marks a crucial step towards potential revisions in the electricity tariff structure, aiming to strike a balance between affordability for consumers and sustainability for the energy sector.
