In a bid to address growing concerns raised by electricity consumers, the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara, has issued instructions to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to temporarily halt all planned power interruptions for non-essential maintenance work during weekends and the holiday season. This move aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power for consumers during crucial times.

General Manager of CEB will be rolling out new guidelines aligned with international benchmarks on planned power interruptions for maintenance work. The decision comes in response to the Ministry’s review of numerous complaints from electricity consumers regarding the frequency of power interruptions for maintenance purposes.

The Ministry, upon investigation, also noted the unnecessary weekend power interruptions incurring substantial overtime payments for the CEB. This decision not only addresses consumer grievances but also aims to optimize financial resources by curbing unnecessary expenses.

These measures are expected to enhance the overall efficiency of the CEB while prioritizing consumer satisfaction during weekends and festive seasons. The Ministry remains committed to ensuring a reliable and consistent power supply for citizens, balancing the necessity of maintenance work with the convenience of the public. (LankaXpress.com)
