The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a suspect (01) with 1947kg of smuggled Kendu leaves, during a special operation conducted in Karative beach area in Puttalam 02nd July 2023.
The Navy often conducts patrols and search operations in coastal and sea areas surrounding the island, to ward off the influx of contraband through sea routes.
As a result of these efforts, SLNS Vijaya belonging to the Northwestern Naval Command made this apprehension, during a special operation conducted in Karative beach area this morning. Accordingly, the suspect who had smuggled 65 packages of Kendu leaves weighing 1947kg was nabbed at the beach by the Navy.
The suspect held in this operation is a resident of Karative, Puttalam, aged 50. The accused along with Kendu leaves handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for onward legal action.
