1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops of the 111 Infantry Brigade of the 11 Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Central (SFHQ-C), irrespective of inclement weather conditions and gushing winds that swept across the hilly Gerandiaella, Ududumbara tourist attractions on Sunday (19 February) moved out hurriedly and rescued a group of 33 local tourists who remained, held up atop the Gerandiaella, Ududumbara mountain range due to torrential rains.

Those tourists had reportedly left for Gerandiella, Ududumbara mountain range on the previous day morning (18 February), but they had failed to go down the mountain as planned due to gloomy weather and heavy rains that forced them to remain stranded without any guidance whatsoever.

On being informed of their predicament, a group of Army personnel belonging to 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps, together with their Commanding Officer quickly went to the location and rescued the group safely. Ududumbara Police officials also gave their support to conduct the rescue operation.

Brigadier Rohitha Rathnayake, Commander, 111 Infantry Brigade closely monitored the assignment and guided them back from the hill top to the point of start safely. Ududumbara Police is conducting further investigations.
