At least 16 passengers were injured when a bus rammed against a trishaw at Galahena in Kalutara on the Matugama-Colombo main road this morning.

The injured were admitted to the Nagoda Teaching Hospital in Kalutara.

The Colombo bound bus belonging to the SLTB Ratmalana Depot was carrying about 60 passengers at the time of the accident. The drivers of the bus and the trishaw were among those injured.

However, a spokesman for the hospital said the injured were out of danger.

Investigations revealed that the trishaw that turned to the right and had collided with the bus that was following. The bus had crashed onto a wayside garden wall when the driver had attempted to prevent the collision.

Police said haphazard turning of the trishaw to the right and the excessive speed of the bus had resulted in the accident.
