5 arrested for rioting near fuel stations

Police arrested 5 persons for rioting near petrol stations. Three of them have been arrested in connection with a riot that took place near the Pelawatta petrol station in Meegahatenna.

Police said the suspects had been behaving in an unruly manner near the Pelawatta petrol station last night, disrupting the duties of police officers and soldiers and disturbing public order. The suspects were said to have been under the influence of alcohol.

Another person has been arrested in the Magallegama area in Nikaweratiya for allegedly intimidating the employees of a petrol station.

An Army officer has been arrested for assaulting a police officer in the Dummaladeniya area in Warakapola while deployed to guard a petrol station in the area.
