A 19-year-old youth from Mediyawa in Eppawala has been taken into custody by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for sharing a death threat on President Ranil Wickremesinghe on his Facebook account.
The suspect’s arrest comes ahead of the President’s scheduled visit to the Thambuttegama and Eppawala areas on Thursday (07).
The suspect allegedly made a Facebook post stating, “Can’t we find a sniper? The man who ruined the country is coming.”
The CID acted swiftly upon discovering the post and apprehended the youth responsible, police said.
