A man suspected of breaking into a house in Wattala area has died after allegedly being attacked with a cricket bat by owners of the house. Initial investigations suggested the 32-year-old suspect had broken in to the house early morning 4.30 am on July 9th and attempted to steal. Owners attacked the burglar with a cricket bat and later admitted him to Ragama hospital.
Investigations suggested that the suspect had broken into the 24 houses in Kadawatha, Kiribathgoda and Wattala police areas. According to police spokesman, in terms of section 96 of the Penal Code, person can use right of private defense in case of robbery happen in night.
