According to Institute for Health Policy IHP data, Sri Lanka’s “Test Positivity Rate” is increasing again. Test positivity (using PCR tests) shows as 15% while seven day average shows as 15.5%. In July first week the rate was about 10%. Seven day average of PCR tests indicate as about 16,000.

Sri Lanka Medical Association SLMA warns that Sri Lanka is approaching a major COVID-19 epidemic; even worse than any previous experiences as ICU beds and COVID-wards in hospitals being fully occupied by patients.

SLMA further says that the COVID situation in the Western Province has reached an extremely serious point, with all intensive care beds and COVID-wards in hospitals being fully occupied by COVID-19 patients, and there being no medical facilities available to many seriously ill COVID-19 patients. Neither are hospital beds available to new COVID19 patients who are increasing in number daily at an alarming rate, some of whom are seriously ill.
