Sri Lanka to Host First Global South Summit on Electoral and Information Integrity – EPIGS’25
Colombo, Sri Lanka – June 3, 2025 — Sri Lanka is set to host the inaugural EPIGS’25 – “Electoral, Platform, and Information Integrity Global South” Summit on June 11–12 in Colombo, bringing together a diverse group of experts to address pressing challenges at the intersection of technology, democracy, and electoral processes.
Organized by Factum in collaboration with Democracy Reporting International and supported by the European Union in Sri Lanka, the summit will convene leading voices in digital rights, tech policy, and media development from across the Global South — including representatives from Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, the United States, Zambia, and the host country, Sri Lanka.
EPIGS’25 aims to foster cross-regional collaboration and spotlight best practices in managing online harm, platform accountability, and electoral integrity. The two-day conference will feature multiple expert panels, with a focus on improving government-tech engagement models and safeguarding democratic institutions in an era of rapid digital transformation.
This marks the first time a South Asian nation is hosting a dedicated global summit focused on the information integrity ecosystem from a Global South perspective — a significant step for Sri Lanka’s growing role in shaping international digital governance discourse.
The event also comes at a critical time, with many Global South countries, including Sri Lanka, navigating a complex media and electoral landscape influenced by evolving technologies, misinformation, and global platform policies.
The outcomes of EPIGS’25 are expected to inform regional cooperation frameworks, influence global tech governance strategies, and elevate the voices of the Global South in global policy conversations.
