Central Bank says that the Core Inflation in the month of June in 2023, fell below 10% to 9.8% and it’s expected to come down to around 7% in July 2023. Sri Lanka’s Core Inflation was 50.2% in September 2022. Meanwhile, food inflation also decreased to 4.1% in June, from the 94.9% in September 2022.

Earlier Central Bank Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe said that he hope to bring inflation down to a single digit by the end of July.

In 2022 March, Sri Lanka’s inflation was the 2nd highest in the world according to the Steve Hanke’s inflation chart. It was estimated that Sri Lanka’s true inflation in 2022 March was 132%.
