Presidential Election Set for September 21
The Elections Commission has officially issued a gazette notification declaring that the Presidential Election will take place on 21st September 2024. Additionally, the notification states that nominations for the election will be accepted on 15th August 2024.
This announcement follows the recent confirmation by the Government Printer regarding the receipt and impending public release of the gazette notification concerning the election declaration. The decision marks a significant step in the electoral process, providing a clear timeline for candidates and the electorate.
Several candidates have already confirmed their intention to run for the Presidential Election. Among them are Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka. Each candidate brings distinct policies and perspectives to the race, promising a competitive and dynamic election.
