SLAAQP Unveils NCQP 2025: Sri Lanka’s Premier Platform for Quality and Productivity Excellence
Colombo, Sri Lanka – 16 May 2025: The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP) has officially announced the National Convention on Quality and Productivity (NCQP) 2025 at a media briefing held at BMICH, Colombo. Scheduled for 21st and 22nd May at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, Colombo, the convention is set to host over 440 teams from more than 70 companies, making it the largest gathering of quality and productivity professionals in the country.
Established in 1996 as the successor to the Quality Circle Association of Sri Lanka, SLAAQP has long served as a driving force behind elevating national standards in quality and productivity.
“The NCQP is more than just a convention; it is a celebration of collective ingenuity and perseverance. It remains the only national platform that empowers participants across all organizational levels, especially shop-floor teams, to showcase their achievements and innovations,” said Dr. Surani Dias, President of SLAAQP.
NCQP 2025 is themed “Beyond Boundaries: Quality, Productivity, and Innovation for Market Competitiveness” and features a wide range of presentations and programmes. These include Quality Control Circles (QCCs), Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs), Lean Six Sigma (LSS), Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs), and Kaizen practices.
“Our mission at SLAAQP is rooted in the belief that continuous improvement is not an option—it is a necessity. By nurturing a culture of innovation and operational excellence, we empower Sri Lankan organisations to compete and thrive globally,” Dr. Dias added.
A key highlight of this year’s event is the introduction of the Sunil G. Wijesinha Quality Control Circle Excellence Award 2025, named in honour of SLAAQP’s founding president and a pioneer of Sri Lanka’s productivity movement. This prestigious award will recognise outstanding achievements in technical excellence, innovation, sustainability, and measurable productivity outcomes.
NCQP 2025 Chairperson, Ms. Piumi Perera, expressed enthusiasm about the event and the new award:
“This award honours teams that demonstrate the transformative potential of quality and productivity initiatives. It reflects the ability of Sri Lankan organisations to excel not only locally, but also on the global stage.”
Significantly, the winning teams at NCQP 2025 will earn the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles 2025, to be held in Taipei, Taiwan. The event will include participants from 14 countries across Asia.
Beyond NCQP, SLAAQP has introduced several strategic initiatives to expand its reach and impact. These include the Total Quality Management (TQM) Excellence Award, Green Productivity Awards, and the second annual Research Conference, scheduled for 30th July 2025. The conference will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, showcasing innovative practices, and promoting cross-sector collaboration.
To further engage the business community, SLAAQP will also host a Business Forum alongside the Research Conference. This forum will tackle critical industry challenges and provide practical insights and solutions for attendees.
