Showers and strong winds expected in parts of the country today

Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (31), the Department of Meteorology said.

A few showers may occur in the North-western province and in the Jaffna district as well.

Showers or thundershowers are predicted at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40-50kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the North-central and North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by strong winds.
